You're kidding right? His script barely would fill an A5 page. He has about 10 one liners in the movie. His script doubles due to the 15 second monologue at the beginning and the one fully formed sentence containing actual verbs near the end.

Given the following:
1. The existence of the "last of the V8 Interceptors" - which was shredded in Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior How would the Feral Kid find another one of these rare cars?
2. Max is younger than the last movie the the Mel Gibson starred trilogy. He also doesn't appear to have the knee injury Max sustained in the first movie. Okay - on this point it could be the Feral Kid.....but other evidence points away from that idea...this does establish a timeframe though.

Fact on the other hand is that the Director/Writer of ALL MAD MAX MOVIES, George Miller... doesn't give much fuck about continuity.
You know that character in the MM2 played by Bruce Spence, the gyrocopter pilot? Who ends up going with the convoy to the North and becoming the chief of the "Great Northern Tribe" at the end of the second movie?
Not the same character as Jedediah the pilot in the third movie, THOUGH he's also played by Bruce Spence and also has an aircraft and is a pilot.
George Miller doesn't give much fuck about continuity.

Yeah. It's sad really. I wanted to love our dice overlords. I even wanted to give the new interface a chance (while hedging my bets with soylentnews) ... even when the new interface screwed up my editing and viewing options. I really wanted to give the site I've loved for so many years a chance.
So now I need to find a new site. I've looked and so far, I haven't been able to find a great option.

Yea, the bad part now is clicking on a subject brings up a new page vs expanding or collapsing the thread. That's killing it for me. It makes it difficult to follow all of the discussions of a thread or even close one that I'm not interested in.

George Miller never feels the need to stop the action and have the characters explain the plot to each other.
Take the citadel, in which the evil warlord lives, and from which he rules over crowds of serfs - grovelling in the dust, and his albino warboys - terrified and terrorising.
We don't need to be told how the citadel works. We just need one look at it, and we get it. We don't need an explanation of how the world came to be how it how is - we just need about ten words in fractured voiceover against a black screen before the movie starts.
It's an action film, and it tells its story through action. It does it so well, that I'm not completely sure I've ever actually seen it done before at all.

Obviously the beginning carries a lot of narration that heavy-handedly prepares the setting for the story. Entirely unlike the first 20 minutes of "There Will Be Blood"-- masterful storytelling by Paul Thomas Anderson.

Well, because then none of her party would have known what she was doing, and you would have had the other side of the "don't explain" narrative coin in which the plot is driven by people not being frank with each other. Which is even more annoying than having stuff explained to the audience because the director doesn't know how to tell stories with images. The action was the story. Why is that a bad thing? The story is of their respective captures, their escape and the way in which their lives became connected for a brief period. It's of the way in which they took down the evil leader of the citadel, and returned triumphant.
Let's put it like this. If you had been through those experiences, you would have one hell of a story to tell. Mad Max tells that story through visuals and design, rather than dialog, brilliantly.

I really hope this is the future of action cinema, not the transformers / ninja turtles dreck that michael bay foisted on us.

There was of course a lot of cgi in the movie but ...
the cgi was there to tell a story- not to render action scenes.
An action movie with rendered action doesn't connect emotionally.
When those guys swinging around on poles showed up- i had a gut reaction.
Making an action film and then using cgi for the action scenes usually lacks just enough realism that I don't have an emotional reaction to the action. That emotion is why I'm willing to put down good money to see a movie.

I left the film thinking (among other things) "my god, Tom Hardy is ***HUGE***".
Turns out eh's actually an inch shorter than Charlize Theron (though obviously rather stockier). I thought he must have been 6'4" from the film, at least.
I'm always amazed how effectively they can make someone look tall!

I think you're not watching the right movie. The Mad Max world is starved of a lot of things, especially water, but Guzonline is definitely not one of them. That's actually what they call it. It's about the only thing they have. They trade it around at will and drive vehicles which burn through it a great deal. Heck there's even a line in the movie where they take the piss out of how much fuel and nitro they have burnt through pursuing max and then shrug it off.
What little plot it had perfectly describes the results that you complain about.
- Person strapped to the front of the car, because he had to be. There's no space in the cab or the tray for your blood supply.
- Doing battle around a tanker? Well the War Machine was a vehicle specifically kitted out to fend off attacks so it stands to reason they are battling around it, and without giving away too much I wouldn't worry about it blowing up given it never actually makes it to the refinery to get filled.
- The vehicles resemble what would be hacked together if the world suddenly went under and the only thing on hand was older cars to weld together. A lot of effort was put into designing vehicles which could legitimately be made from cars of only that era. Aside from armour plating, some spikes on the tires, and that one car with spikes all over (a homage to the Echidna, an Australian ant-eating mammal), most of the cars are pace cars designed to get you close enough so you can throw grenades at your target.
- Fireworks? Got a better way of signalling in a world without electricity? Though they do use semaphore towers between fixed places, the the fireworks were used for communication.
Don't judge a book by it's cover. It has very real stunts, few special effects, is definitely not overhyped, is not a rehash (and has nothing to do with previous Mad Max films), and I would have to say is anything OTHER than dime-a-dozend Hollywood shitfests which are coming out at the moment. It's a movie narrated beautifully by action and not dialogue.

Firstly, they found the only possible way of making a double guitar even more badass: adding that flame thrower to the end, making it the last word in guitars. That counts for a lot.
Secondly, I thought the lead acting was really, really good.
The support was a little weaker, but I didn't find it impinged.

You can submit poll suggestions / ideas, Yes.
One day, this should mean a better poll-specific interface, but for now, just use the regular story-submission page. It's a bit of a kludge in our system, but submissions turned into polls don't get karma credit, the way accepted stories do -- sorry about that, and (not quite as bad as the final scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark) top men are working on it.
Upshot is that just like other submissions, and position on the page aside, we're going to run polls that the editors think are a good idea, largely drawn from reader suggestions -- that's how the site's always worked. Submit more / better polls? Aye, you betcha, please do, and have at!

Slashdot has been one of the bastions of the internet where rock-hard unemotional honesty and rationality are valued and made salient (through the moderations system and its community). This has always made it my favorite place on the internet by far: getting away from cat pictures, stupid 12-things-that-lists, regurgitated shallow clickbait news reports, endlessly shortsighted comments and stupid fucking polls.
Lately, Slashdot has been sinking. It is still my favorite place, with so much of the internet having devolved into the crap I just mentioned, but the vocal and unabridged resistance against the sinking is imho our only hope for Slashdot not going to shit completely.

Mad Max 1 wasn't even a post apocalyptic movie. The director didn't have a lot of money so they just did some thing about a guy surviving gangs. He was surprised when he heard people uniformly fill in the blanks that it was post apocalyptic. Anyway, it isn't that great... but it isn't bad either. There is basically no plot period.
Mad Max 1 wasn't "post-apocalyptic" but I think it was more interesting than that -- it was *pre* apocalyptic. It was set in an era of severe social and economic decline. Petroleum was becoming very scarce. Government services were basically in tatters, law enforcement was marginal at best -- they had basically lost control of the countryside and rural areas -- there was basically no law enforcement in the small town where the biker gang picked up the Nightrider's coffin and terrorized the townspeople.

I like a good chase scene, when it's part of the movie. But when the chase scene is the entire movie, it becomes less exciting.
The plot of every Mad Max, except the first one, is the same: "High Plains Drifter" all over again. Loner anti-hero comes to town. None-too-nice towns people need his help. With some reluctance, the anti-hero does save the town folk. Then the lone drifter drifts off again.
