What Happened To Moonlight Atelier? 9
entropi asks: "Does anyone know what happened to the X 3d rendering program Moonlight Atelier? The website is now non-existent and its entries have dissappeared from freshmeat as well. This was a cool program that helped fill an important niche for the Linux platform. Where did it go?" It's a shame. I was looking forward to seeing this package mature a bit more. Does anyone have info on what went wrong?

i thought that moonlight 3d was at least still listed on freshmeat until much more recently than the last time the question was asked, but i could be mistaken.

From what I've seen, Moonlight 3D seems to create some very nice images. Does anyone have recommendations for 3D modeling/rendering programs that will produce images of a quality that's at least as good as Moonlight 3D?

Try Blender [blender.nl]. While it's technically not a raytracer, it's rendering engine is still very capable. Look at the gallery on their site and be amazed.
The learning curve is high, but if you're at all interested in this art form, try Blender! You can use it for animations and game development as well. And only 1.5M!
