RoboCup 2004: Reports From The Field?

The official site seems a bit lacking in this respect. What are your experiences and thoughts so far? Live news coverage on the Internet

It would seem that when netizens disconnect from the Internet they don't take notes. Live coverage is pathetic on the net. For example, the live coverage of the SpaceShipOne 100km space shot consisted of a webcast of the Space Show where the onsite reporter was using a cell phone to relay back what was happening. No pictures. No video. Not to mention the fact that all the feeds were swamped because the Space Show has never had that many listeners before and as such you were listening to static for half the time (but webcasted static!).

Not to poopoo on your very valid point, but the BBC had streaming video of the entire thing - details at bottom of this post [boingboing.net]. CNN and MSNBC also had web-video coverage, although the latter was prerecorded, and the former required a RealOne pass.

BBC's streaming video also royally sucked; there was absolutely no commentary, and the cameraman was either drunk or had a very bad case of ADD, so I really had no idea of what was going on the entire time. The original poster is incorrect on this particular thing, but his general point is still very true.

Get the signals (positions, kicks, ...) from the computers controlling the robots and make an interface for it :-)

The RoboCup Junior competition is also on at the momemnt. The current team representing Australia is from my school and their robots are impressive. I've witnessed the bith of RoboCup Junior and have assisted with it since then. This is a great way to teach students about robotics and programming. One of the robots built at my school is programmed in ASM, which is a pretty good feat.
