From the article, "I'm not sure if the admission that I remember my first Linux installation much more clearly than any date with my first boyfriend or my first date with my husband is a really wise thing to put in writing. I will freely admit it wasn't quite as anxiety-inducing as a date, and the long-term relationship that sprang from it taught me quite a bit about myself, how I learn, and how to passionately load kernel modules at boot...So what was your first Linux experience? Would be back in '93. Spent hours downloading slackware floppies from the A and N sets at 14.4kbps, then managed to get them installed, got SLIP up and running and NFS mounted the WUSTL slackware repository to finish up the install.
didn't have enough RAM for X (386sx20, 6 megs of RAM, 100M hard drive, no CD), so web browsing was lynx.... but i could do it on both the console and a serial attached terminal, so that was darn cool.
Yeah, the first time kind of hurt, but it's gotten a lot better since then.
