Has LinDVD Been Released Yet? 7
EMR asks: "From a previous e-mail I sent to intervideo, I was told that LinDVD should be out in "Early June". Well, it's mid july and they just have the press release from March on their web site. Yesterday I e-mailed them again with their status and got this in Response.
'LinDVD has been released to certain OEMs in the market. If you are interested in obtaining a version of LinDVD, you will need to contact your favorite OEMs and see if a version of LinDVD is currently available.' Does anyone know of any OEMs that might have this? and how to contact them?"

I have taken to starting the player and the disk, going to the kitchen for beer, pizza, whatever, calling the kids, letting the dog out, blablabla to burn the time while my current player is locked up and playing ads. When I hear the movie start I come back and sit down...
That's why I support OpenDVD and the like, I simply want a player that is free of external controls.

They were asking if they should 1) release binary-only players with decss, or 2) remove decss.
Someone from the FSF contacted them and said that if they were going to keep the code GPLd they shouldn't release binary only.
So that's why.
Sooo... theoretically you could wrap decss back into the code _fairly_ easily, especially if they left the appropriate hooks in there.

As a matter of fact, since I became aware of this issue, I've tried to avoid actually paying for watching movies, thus depriving the MPAA (and its Brazilian representation) of my pecuniary suport. Don't get me wrong, I still like some of the big studio movies, just as I still like some proprietary software.
What the fuck do you expect, idiot?
Wow. Yeah, that's some good debatin' - just insult me, that'll get you somewhere.
Just to set the record straight (as if "What the fuck do you expect, idiot?" entitled you to a rational reply), by "willing to pay", I meant for the player, not for the movies.
It's truly a tribute to the idiocy of Slashdot's moderation system that someone who turns on his flamethrower as easily as you would get a +1 score bonus. I'm very thankful that you keep away from k5, as I suspect that we'd feel a chill on our collective spine as the ambient IQ-meter drops noticeably...
