My concern is just that, if the people problem is solved, people could take the other specie, or the entire planet with them.

I don't think the population problem will kill us off, however. Even nuclear warfare would leave some survivors. I think it will probably be a bioweapon created with one of those cheap CRISPR kits they are selling right now.
Sorry, but I've concluded that's how the Fermi Paradox is resolved in most cases. I think there might be some AIs out there that have survived past the crisis we now face, but they are probably wagering quatloos on whether we survive long enough to produce our own replacements, and right now the betting odds are falling fast... We are not even gonna beat the spread.
