Technical Assistance w/ JPEG Algorithm? 6
Aaditya Sood asks: "I'm working on a DSP [?] project and am currently hacking away at the JPEG [?] algorithim. However I can't find the technical specs for it even though I have IJG's pseudo-C code. I hail from India so net time is not cheap for me. Could someone please point me to some resources on the Web which pertain to JPEG information?"

Try this: /asn/developer/PDFS/TN/TIFF6.pdf [adobe.com]

This is the TIFF specification (very useful) but as TIFF supports JPEG compression the scheme is well explained. GIF compression is explained too. It is 385k. If bandwidth is really an issue, e-mail me and I can send you a .zip (which is still 269kb)

Of course, JPEG isn't a file format but an encoding algorithm. There are currently two main file formats for distributing encoded JPEG data streams: JFIF and TIFF. Fortunately, wotsit.org contains both specs for the file formats and specs for the encoding algorithm. This message was brought to you courtesy of Pedants-R-Us (tm).
