The Crypto Rights Foundation (http://www.cryptorights.org) is one example of what I'm asking for. They provide tech support for human rights organizations that use PGP. What nerd-oriented charities are people willing to recommend?"

Try Educational Technology

There is a great deal being done in the world of educational technology - some schools really don't know how to get with the times and could probably use paid time of high-powered private consultants like big business uses. There are also many educational websites which you could check out. I work at one, and would be glad to tell you more about it, but won't plug it here. The US government has a commission of some sort on educational technology, though I don't recall their url.

my god man, do you really have nothing better to give your money away to - take a look around, there's rampant starvation, lack of medicines, food, disaster relief, etc. everywhere. I'm not anti-technology at all but I believe your money would be better spent saving a life, e.g. giving directly to a humanitarian organization for real world relief rather than online presence When it comes down to it: save a life, or help a nonprofit org have a site - your choice
