"Maximum Linux" Magazine? 8

m0nkyman writes "I went into my local magazine store today, and the woman behind the counter asked me if I would be interested in this new magazine. She showed me a flyer for a magazine called 'Maximum Linux'. I naturally said "Yes!", but when I got home I couldn't find out anything about it on the net. What's the scoop? The illustration looked like a MaximumPC clone." Another Linux magazine in print is never a bad thing. Has anyone heard anything else about this?

  • There's no DNS records to go along with the domain name.
  • I stumbled across this message board [maximumpcmag.com] where the guys and gals at maxPC were testing the waters and asking for letters to the editor. I submitted the link to /., but I guess it didn't qualify as a story, it really didn't have much behind it.

I hope that it will have the same quality as BOOT had and that MaxPC has now.

If they do publish and it is as good thier other mags this is a great thing for the community and I'll be first in line for subscription.

I saw a copy of this at the Border's here. Gave it a quick thumbing through, but decided against it for some reason.... wish I could remember, I think it was price.

Speaking of price, I requested a subscription to LJ a little more than a month ago, and have yet to receive it, anyone know about expected lag times here?
  • A friend of mine had to wait 3 months, I myself got it the month after I ordered. So I guess it differs.
  • Here is what I got in the way of info from Imagine Media:

"Yes, it will be available on newsstand only starting September 14th."

I got BOOT and now get Maximum PC and I'm very excited to see how they do on this.
  • In the August 99 issue of Maximum PC, in the Ed Word section at the beginning, Brad Dosland had this to say: "All said, we have tons more for you to look forward to in the coming monthes...and a killer new project that should make Linux fans very, very happy. I'll have more on this news soon."

It sounds great, but I just paid for my Maximum PC subscription, so I hope they would offer Maximum Linux at a discount, or will allow me to change which magazine I recieve.
