How do I get an X only console using Linux?

azdolt asks "I hope I can get some help on this: I have been trying to get xdm to run on all the virtual consoles, but I have no success so far and I read the man page for xdm and anything that I can find about xdm." This isn't difficult at all, but there's a note in /etc/inittab that worries me - Click below to find out what it is...
I know Linux can do this, but according to comments from my /etc/inittab (from Slackware 2.0, I think):

# Runlevel 4 used to be for an X-window only system, until we discovered
# that it throws init into a loop that keeps your load avg at least 1 all
# the time. Thus, there is now one getty opened on tty6. Hopefully no one
# will notice. ;^)
Now, I realize it's probably been a LONG time since that was written. Does anyone know if it's still a problem?
