Modem Reset Problems

Oblom writes in with this bit of peculiar behavior: "As everybody knows ISPs like to disconnect you every 4 (some more, some less) hours. Usually my modem radials automatically without any problems. But from time to time it just wouldn't hang up. If I pick up a phone at that time I would clearly hear the noise. I tried different things, but the only one that seems to work is reboot with hardware reset (I have an internal Diamond 56K modem). Does anybody else experience anything similar and is there any way around this without rebooting?" This is on a Debian 2.0 system using wvdial. Any clues? Click below!
